Hi Rav Sperling,

Is one allowed to heat up cosmetics in the microwave or would this trief the microwave. For example, often hair treatments require warming in a microwave. Thanks so much! 

Answer:

What an interesting question – thank you! In fact it is permitted. This is because there is no 'treif' food in the cosmetics – it is not considered as food at all. That is why you can heat up a plastic plate, even though it does not have hechsher, because it isn't food.
