Annette Weisberg was born in Germany in 1946 to Catholic parents. Surrounded as a child by many reminders of World War II, the ruins and the rubble were her playground. In her youth, she became more and more conscious of the atrocities the Nazis had committed ‒ the unspeakable horrors of the Holocaust.

In her talk she will describe her experiences as a young post-war German, the education with regard to the Holocaust, and her struggles with an older generation of Germans which had opted for a collective silence about Germany’s dark recent past. She will describe the challenges as a young German immigrant in North America in a mostly Jewish environment and later as the wife of a Jewish American man. How does her past affect her present, with seven Israeli grandchildren, and her growing understanding of their religious way of life?
